Twisters Star Glen Powell: My Batman 'Too Wild' for Matt Reeves

May 29, 2024 2:26 PM

Glen Powell, star of the upcoming film "Twisters," shared his desire to play Batman in a recent GQ interview. Known for his brief role as "Trader #1" in "The Dark Knight Rises," Powell expressed his preference for a Batman portrayal closer to Michael Keaton's iconic rendition rather than the darker tone seen in Matt Reeves' adaptations. Powell fondly recalled the Batmobile from the 1989 Tim Burton movie, indicating his appreciation for that era of Batman films. He joins other actors like Keanu Reeves and Alan Ritchson, who have also shown interest in donning the cape and cowl. The next Batman movie, "The Batman – Part II," directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson, is set for release on October 2, 2026. Additionally, James Gunn's new Batman project, "The Brave and the Bold," will focus on Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne's son, inspired by Grant Morrison's comic series.

Who wants to play Batman in an upcoming film?

Glen Powell has expressed interest in playing Batman, particularly favoring a portrayal similar to Michael Keaton's version rather than the darker Matt Reeves adaptation.

In the Batman universe, Michael Keaton’s portrayal of the Dark Knight in Tim Burton's 1989 film marked a significant shift in comic book movies, blending a darker, more gothic aesthetic with psychological depth. This version of Batman often contrasts with more recent adaptations that emphasize a grim, hyper-realistic tone, as seen in Christopher Nolan's trilogy and Matt Reeves' films.
