Ubisoft has announced a delay to its latest game, XDefiant, following the identification of certain issues during its playtests. Originally scheduled for release in October, the game's development team decided the experiences of gamers were inconsistent and needed to be addressed before launch. This news was shared in a statement on Twitter.
XDefiant, Ubisoft's rival to popular game Call of Duty, aims to mimic the classic Call of Duty feel, focusing on fast-paced gameplay and objective-driven modes. It brings features like a classic mini-map and lobbies that remain intact post-match. The game is being developed by Ubisoft San Francisco, under the directorship of Mark Rubin, an executive producer and ex-member of Infinity Ward, where he worked on multiple Call of Duty series.
Mark Rubin further elaborated on the feedback the Public Test Session (PTS) received, noting that players found the movement in the game to feel "off". This mainly related to the sliding feature in the game which players commented felt "sluggish" or "inconsistent". Rubin explained that the cause of this issue was frame spikes that interrupted the slide.
Emphasizing his intent to deliver a game that gamers can enjoy for years, Rubin confirmed the delay was to improve gameplay for everyone. "I know it's a bummer that we are moving the date especially since we seemed so close and that for many the game is great and they can't wait to play but I’d rather ship a game that is better for everyone," he said. The development team aims to build this game side-by-side with its community, to improve it as best as they can.
