Bad news for Pokémon enthusiasts wanting to get their hands on the special limited-edition Van Gogh Pikachu trading card - it's sold out, thanks to scalpers grabbing them all and now selling online for a hefty sum.
In a collaboration with the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, The Pokémon Company International recently unveiled unique merchandise inspired by Van Gogh's distinctive style. One of the highlights was a special Van Gogh Pikachu trading card, where Pikachu replaces Van Gogh in his famous "Self-Portrait with Grey Felt Hat". It was all great news until scalpers, known for buying limited items to resell at higher prices, jumped in and bought all the merchandise available online.
The limited-edition Van Gogh Pikachu cards are now appearing online for purchase, but at a steep cost ranging from £105 to £700 for a graded edition of the card. Other items from the collaboration, like prints, plushies, and deck boxes, are also selling well above their retail prices.
Due to the rapid sell-out of the merchandise, the official Pokémon Twitter account issued a statement but didn't confirm if measures would be taken to address these scalping issues. The statement assured fans that they're looking into ways to make more of the 'Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat' promo cards available in the future.
For those still hoping to get the card, it's recommended to follow Pokémon's social channels for updates. But remember, it might not be worth spending hundreds of pounds on it.
