Why fans are furious about God of War Ragnarok on PC

May 31, 2024 9:12 AM

God of War Ragnarok is officially coming to PC on September 19, 2024, as announced during the latest PlayStation State of Play. The PC port will include all DLC and additional performance options, but players are upset because it requires linking a PlayStation Network (PSN) account to their Steam account. This requirement is controversial because PSN accounts are not available in 170 countries, potentially locking out many players from accessing the game.

This frustration mirrors previous reactions to similar requirements for PlayStation games like Helldivers 2 and Ghost of Tsushima's PC port, which have multiplayer components. The issue with God of War Ragnarok is that it is primarily a single-player game, making the necessity of a PSN account more questionable for many players.

Why is linking a PlayStation Network account for a PC game controversial?

Linking a PlayStation Network account for a PC game is controversial because PSN accounts are not available in 170 countries. This restriction prevents players in those regions from accessing games that require a PSN link, potentially locking them out of both purchasing and playing the game.

God of War Ragnarok is the sequel to the 2018 God of War game, which rebooted the franchise with a focus on Norse mythology. Developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the game continues the journey of Kratos and his son Atreus as they navigate the perils of the Norse world. The series has been acclaimed for its deep storytelling, complex characters, and stunning visuals, making its upcoming PC port highly anticipated among fans who may not own a PlayStation console.

It's awesome to see God of War Ragnarok heading to PC with all the bells and whistles, but that PSN link requirement is a real buzzkill for a lot of gamers worldwide. With so many regions unable to access PSN, it feels like Sony is throwing up some unnecessary hurdles for what should be an epic single-player experience on PC.

It's great to see God of War Ragnarok making its way to PC with all the bells and whistles, but the PSN account requirement feels like an unnecessary barrier, especially for a single-player game. Limiting access in so many countries seems counterproductive when the goal should be to broaden the audience and build excitement around the franchise.

Man, it's awesome that God of War Ragnarok is making its way to PC with all the sweet DLC and extra performance options. But seriously, the whole PSN account linking deal feels like a major bummer, especially since it locks so many players out—it's a single-player game, c'mon
