Netflix has announced a second Witcher anime film called 'The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep,' set to debut in late 2024. The movie will adapt Andrzej Sapkowski's short story "A Little Sacrifice," with Doug Cockle returning to voice Geralt of Rivia. Joining him will be Joey Batey and Anya Chalotra, reprising their roles as Jaskier and Yennefer from the live-action series, and Christina Wren voicing Essi Daven, a new character to the Witcher screen adaptations.
The storyline follows Geralt as he investigates attacks in a coastal village, becoming embroiled in a longstanding conflict between humans and merpeople. Set in the Witcher universe around 1244, the plot takes place after Geralt and Yennefer's first meeting in the Netflix show and involves a love dispute between a prince and a mermaid, with potentially extensive consequences.
This news follows an Easter egg in the third season of the Witcher series, which subtly hinted at the anime film through a song. The story of "A Little Sacrifice" is highly regarded by fans for its narrative depth, despite the absence of characters like Yennefer or Ciri. With its self-contained plot, it's well-suited for a standalone feature on Netflix.
The previous Witcher anime film, 'Nightmare of the Wolf,' received a 6 out of 10 rating, with criticism for focusing too much on setting up the live-action series instead of developing its own story. Fans of the Witcher series have been anticipating the new anime film, excited to see how this beloved story will translate to the animated medium.
