Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, has expressed his desire to revive the MechAssault franchise, despite not having a concrete plan at present. The original MechAssault video game, which supports Xbox Live's online multiplayer feature, was released on Xbox in November of 2002. Despite its popularity, its sequel did not perform well sales-wise, leading Microsoft to halt its development.
MechAssault's developers, Day 1 Studios, have since evolved into Wargaming Chicago-Baltimore and now develop the game World of Tanks. In spite of the cancellation, Spencer wishes to revisit the MechAssault franchise, as he stated in an IGN Japan Q&A at the Tokyo Game Show of 2023.
Additionally, Xbox executive Sarah Bond acknowledged fans' requests to bring back Blizzard's StarCraft series. She reflected on the possibility of reviving the esteemed real-time strategy series, the last release of which was the standalone expansion pack to StarCraft 2, Legacy of the Void in 2015. Her comments become even more significant given Microsoft's upcoming purchase of Activision Blizzard for $69 billion.
