In the latest addition to the Legend of Zelda franchise, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, some intriguing changes have left fans with many questions. This sequel takes place in the same world as its predecessor, Breath of the Wild, but presents a drastically different Hyrule for players to explore. Striking differences include a literally falling sky and new mysterious chasms. However, what's notably missing is the Sheikah technology, shrines, guardians, and divine beasts that were prominent in the last game.
This perplexing absence was addressed by Tears of the Kingdom director Hidemaro Fujibayashi. He explained in a recent Telegraph interview that after the Calamity was defeated, these elements vanished. The people of Hyrule saw this, but no one understands why it happened. As they are used to witnessing drastic changes in their world, they took this disappearance as just another shift in their chaotic universe.
Fujibayashi noted that Hyrule's inhabitants assume the disappearances are tied to ancient Sheikah technology, but no one has made efforts to delve deeper into the mystery. He assures that despite this, the game offers new gameplay possibilities and mysterious locations to explore. Specifically, Link now possesses Zonai abilities, which have opened up innovative travel and warfare options.
Nintendo is not planning on releasing any more content or DLC for Tears of the Kingdom at this time and is focusing on the franchise's upcoming games. However, the director leaves room for a return to Hyrule in future installations. Whether it's a sequel or an entirely new game, fans eagerly await what's next!
