Amazon Luna adjusts its purchase policy

Intelligence Summary
- Starting April 10, 2026, Amazon Luna will no longer allow individual game purchases. Here’s what’s changing in the new subscription setup.
Amazon Luna adjusts its game purchase policy
Amazon Luna, Amazon’s cloud gaming service, has announced that as of April 10, 2026, users will no longer be able to buy individual games or third-party subscriptions. This strict change to the purchase policy means subscribers will no longer have the option to buy games à la carte, changing how players access the service’s gaming offerings.
Still active despite the changes
Despite these changes, Amazon Luna is not being shut down. In fact, Amazon says it is focusing on other user experiences, such as GameNight. This shift in focus is meant to improve the platform’s content and overall experience for users.
Amazon Luna subscription structure
Amazon Luna currently offers two subscription tiers: Standard and Premium. The Standard plan is included with a monthly Amazon Prime membership at no extra cost. It gives access to a rotating selection of games. The Premium plan, meanwhile, requires a separate monthly payment of $9.99 and gives users access to a larger game library.
Prime Gaming and Luna integration
In October 2025, the Amazon Luna brand took over the former Prime Gaming labels, and the two services were merged. That means Amazon Prime members can still claim free PC games through platforms such as GOG Galaxy and the Amazon Games app.
Timeline
April 10, 2026: Amazon Luna will no longer allow purchases of individual games or third-party subscriptions.
October 2025: Amazon Luna branding replaced Prime Gaming, and the services were merged.
With these changes announced, the service now offers a wide range of game formats within the GameNight experience.
It’s important to note that while these changes limit users’ purchasing options, they will still be able to access previously purchased games through linked third-party accounts such as GOG Galaxy or the EA App on compatible PCs. Save data for these titles can be downloaded until June 10, though it is not guaranteed to be immediately usable.
Amazon Luna has also promised that the monthly free titles for PC users with a Prime subscription will continue. April 2026’s rotation includes titles such as Total War: Three Kingdoms, Rebel Galaxy, and Deep Sky Derelicts.
With the recent changes and renewed focus, it remains to be seen what Amazon Luna will do to grow its subscriber base and what new features or experiences it has planned for the future.
