Empulse: new mech shooter from 1047 Games announced

1047 Games, the developer behind Splitgate, has officially announced its latest game, Empulse. The reveal took place on May 20, 2026, following an earlier Steam listing. Empulse is a team-based shooter with a 6v6 format set in an urban environment called Freehold. The game promises players will fight not only inside mechs, but also on foot. With a range of movement techniques and unique weapons, the gameplay options are substantial.

Gameplay features

Empulse is designed as a movement shooter, giving players access to a variety of mechanics such as:

• P.A.I.N.T. bombs

• Holo jumps

• Wall runs

• Grappling hooks

On top of these movement elements, two playable mechs will spawn on the map, each with unique weapons and abilities. The first players to reach a mech gain a major advantage in the match. At the same time, squads can work together to take down a mech and regain control of the fight.

Development process and timeline

Empulse’s development follows a challenging year for 1047 Games, with the team facing several setbacks. In 2025, there were layoffs, while the founders cut their salaries to support the team. The launch of Splitgate 2, which entered beta in July 2025, was also rolled back and eventually relaunched in December that year under the title Splitgate: Arena Reloaded. Despite these challenges, 1047 Games says its current Steam numbers may not tell the full story of its community and player experience.

Players can sign up for early access on the official Empulse website, though no exact release date has been announced yet. The variety in gameplay and the mix of mech and human combat make Empulse an exciting addition to the genre.
