Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3: developments and expectations
The third installment of the acclaimed Final Fantasy 7 remake, led by director Naoki Hamaguchi, is well underway. Hamaguchi recently said that development on Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 is “progressing on schedule and on time.” Despite the lack of a specific release date or window, the director is optimistic about the project’s progress.
Development progress
In a recent interview, Hamaguchi said the development phase is steadily moving forward and stressed that the team is preparing to announce the release date, which many may see as reassuring. Hamaguchi said: “What I can say is that development itself is progressing on time and according to schedule. We think it will be a title we can confidently deliver as the culmination of the trilogy.”
The first two parts of the remake were released in 2020 and 2024 respectively, meaning that even if Part 3 launches later this year, six years will have passed between the release of the first and third entries.
Challenges of the remake
Hamaguchi also spoke about the biggest challenges of modernizing Final Fantasy 7. According to him, one major challenge was finding the right balance between “nostalgia” and “innovation.” He explained: “For players familiar with the original game, for us it goes beyond the story alone — the relationships between the characters and the emotions they felt are crucial elements that we need to handle carefully.”
New gameplay elements and locations
When Part 3 launches, players can expect new gameplay mechanics and locations. Hamaguchi hinted that there will be some areas that have not yet been explored in the remake series. He recently shared that the “core of the game experience is almost complete,” and the team is now focusing on refinement and polishing.
An interesting addition to the gameplay is the card game Queen’s Blood, which is returning for the final chapter of the remake trilogy. According to Hamaguchi, Queen’s Blood is designed as a strong standalone gameplay experience, not just a minigame. He added that special attention has been paid to the game’s strategic depth and interaction.
