First look at Highlander filming with Henry Cavill and Karen Gillan

The long-awaited reboot of the cult classic Highlander, now being directed by Chad Stahelski, is currently in full production with filming underway in Scotland. Among the lead cast are Henry Cavill and Karen Gillan, who were recently photographed shooting flashback scenes set in the 16th century.

About the film

Highlander is a reboot of the original 1986 film, which won over plenty of fans at the time. In this new version, Henry Cavill plays Connor MacLeod, an immortal swordmaster born in 1518. Just like the original, this remake will also include glimpses of MacLeod’s origins in the Scottish Highlands.

Filming in Scotland

Set photos have recently surfaced showing Cavill and Gillan in traditional Scottish clothing, with several scenes filmed at Eilean Donan Castle. The images show Cavill with long hair and tartan attire, creating a strong visual link to the film’s historical setting.

The film promises a mix of action and drama, with immortal warriors facing off in what is known as 'The Gathering'. There, the immortals are forced into a deadly battle that leaves only one warrior standing.

Known for his impressive action choreography, Stahelski is likely to rework Highlander’s action elements, drawing comparisons to the popular John Wick franchise. Filmmakers and cast have suggested the action scenes will be intense and visually stunning, raising expectations even further.
