Hulu secures rights to adapt the Kindred’s Curse Saga
Hulu has acquired the rights to adapt Penn Cole’s Kindred’s Curse Saga for the screen. The series will be based on the first book, Spark of the Everflame, which sits at the heart of this fantasy novel series. The project is currently set to be titled Everflame.
About the series
The story follows healer Diem Bellator in the magical land of Emarion. Once home to immortal beings known as the Kindred, Emarion is now ruled by the Descended, the successors to these legendary figures. Diem has little love for the Descended and becomes entangled in a complicated relationship with the Prince of Lumnos, Luther Corbois, who belongs to one of the most powerful houses in the land. The adaptation promises a slow-burn romance and plenty of tension, both key parts of the story.
Project team
Heidi Cole McAdams, known for her work on series such as The 100, Death And Other Details, and Stumptown, will serve as co-creator on the project. McAdams appears to have a strong eye for retelling the story in a visual medium without losing the essence of the books. Penn Cole has expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting that Heidi understands the core message of his books and can translate it to the screen.
Relationship to other adaptations
Everflame joins a growing slate of book adaptations in development. Other projects include Rebecca Yarros’ Fourth Wing series, which is headed to Prime Video, as well as Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Blood and Ash series, which is currently with Sony Pictures Television. Netflix is also working on an adaptation of Callie Hart’s Quicksilver. It is worth noting, however, that a previous adaptation of A Court Of Thorns And Roses at Hulu was canceled, although author Sarah J. Maas recently regained the rights.
