IO Interactive is working on Project Fantasy

IO Interactive, known for popular games such as Hitman and 007 First Light, recently announced that the company is working on an entirely new project called Project Fantasy. This project marks a shift in the studio's creative direction, as it previously focused mainly on developing games within established franchises.

What is Project Fantasy?

Project Fantasy is described as an online fantasy RPG, designed to both entertain players and support the possibility of extensive content updates in the future. IO Interactive announced the project in 2023, with the ambition of creating a world that can keep players engaged over time. With a focus on originality and innovation, Project Fantasy offers the chance for a completely new gaming experience in the fantasy genre.

Development team and process

The team working on Project Fantasy is currently larger than the team developing Hitman, but smaller than the one behind 007 First Light. IO Interactive has five studios across Europe, and artwork for Project Fantasy was recently seen at IO's Brighton studio. Chief development officer Véronique Lallier has indicated that the project is a high priority and is in active development.
