Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, developed by TT Games, lets players enjoy an adventure packed with nods to more than 80 years of Batman history. The game is filled with Easter eggs and references that go deeper than ever before, making it an exciting experience for fans of both the Lego franchise and the Batman universe.

Deep-cut references

The developers have clearly put a lot of effort into weaving deep cuts and humor into the story. One notable reference comes from actor Michael Caine, who played Alfred Pennyworth in the Batman films. In a social media post from 2024, Caine made a typo while quoting: "Why do we fall? So we can learn to pick ourselves back up. Batman Begin." The correct title, however, is Batman Begins. That mistake sparked a meme culture around Caine, and in Legacy of the Dark Knight, the joke is cleverly included, with the Lego version of Alfred delivering Caine’s original quote.

Homage to Batman Forever

The game also includes an interesting reference to the film Batman Forever. In a scene where Batman and Dick Grayson take on Two-Face, the villain addresses his henchmen with the words: "I can no longer condone this buffoonery." It’s a nod to the awkward relationship between Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones during the film’s production. Carrey, who played the Riddler, has revealed in interviews that Jones could not hide his dislike for him, which led to this memorable quote now finding a place in the game.

The humor in Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is further boosted by the cast, including Matt Berry, who will voice Bane. This mix of grit and hilarity, combined with the iconic Lego design and open-world gameplay, makes the anticipation for the May 22, 2026 release even stronger. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, with a future version planned for Switch 2.
