LEGO Pokémon sets with Smart Play elements leaked
Several upcoming LEGO Pokémon sets have leaked, and they all appear to include interactive area triggers. These sets feature LEGO’s new interactive element, Smart Play, which was introduced earlier this year. Smart Play uses the Smart Brick, included in specific sets, and generates sound and light effects under certain conditions. So far, the technology has only rolled out in a few Star Wars playsets, but LEGO has big plans for its future use.
Smart Play in Pokémon sets
The leaked images give fans a first look at Smart Play being used across several Pokémon sets. One standout is Cubone and Gengar's Spooky Showdown , which includes blocky builds of both Pokémon and comes with four Smart Tags. These tags are NFC tiles that let a Smart Brick communicate with the set. Each Pokémon has its own tag, plus two extra tags that enable further interaction within the set, providing feedback when the Pokémon hit targets in the build.
Jigglypuff Concert
Another set is the Jigglypuff Concert , which includes just one Smart Tag, specifically for Jigglypuff. The set looks simple, with the cute Pokémon joined by two small speakers and a microphone setup that helps stage the concert.
Charmander and Geodude's Cavern Clash
There is also Charmander and Geodude's Cavern Clash , which includes two blocky builds and two Smart Tags, one for each creature. Details about the set’s interaction and features are not fully clear yet.
Future sets and Smart Bricks
A fourth leaked set is Charizard vs Jolteon Ultimate Battle , which includes two Smart Bricks and four Smart Tags. As with the other sets, there is a series of targets for the two Pokémon to attack, though further interaction is still unclear. These sets have been known to leakers for some time and are part of a longer list of LEGO Pokémon sets expected this summer, with a rollout expected from August 1.
It’s important to note that not all of these new sets include a Smart Brick. That could mean fans may need to buy a set with a Smart Brick first in order to use the Smart Play elements in other sets. For now, the cheapest way to get a Smart Brick is through the $69.99 TIE Fighter set, which includes one. In the future, LEGO is expected to sell Smart Bricks separately as well.
