Switch 2 sells very well in Japan

Recent video game hardware sales figures in Japan, published by Famitsu, show that Nintendo's Switch 2 has gotten off to a strong start in the market. In the period from May 18 to May 24, 2026, the Switch 2 sold an impressive 247,880 units, showing that demand for the new console is substantial.

Alongside the impressive Switch 2 sales, other Nintendo consoles were also reported, including the Switch Lite and Switch OLED. The Switch Lite sold 4,433 units, while the Switch OLED sold 2,375 units. There were also continued sales for the original Switch, which sold 2,731 units.

Comparison with other consoles

Famitsu's figures not only highlight the strong performance of the Switch 2, but also provide insight into sales of other popular consoles. The PlayStation 5, including the Digital Edition, sold 6,049 units of the PS5 Digital Edition in the same period, 1,862 units of the PS5 Pro, and 762 units of the standard PS5. For the Xbox Series X, including the Digital Edition, sales were 455 for the Digital Edition and 331 for the regular version, while the Xbox Series S sold 91 units.

Weekly sales changes

An important indicator of sales trends is the comparison with the previous week. In the week before the reported figures, the Switch 2 sold 217,922 units, meaning an increase of 13,958 units over the past week. Other consoles also showed fluctuations; the Switch Lite saw a drop to 8,303 units and the Switch OLED fell to 7,804 units. For the PlayStation 5, the previous week's figures were recorded as follows: 6,902 for the PS5 Digital Edition, 1,747 for the PS5 Pro, and 594 for the standard PS5. The Xbox Series X also declined, with 193 units sold for the regular version and 191 for the Digital Edition, as well as 47 units for the Xbox Series S.

The continued rise in Switch 2 sales and those of other consoles suggests a competitive market dynamic in Japan's video game industry. With significant figures for both Nintendo and Sony products, the market continues to evolve with ongoing updates and performance from these popular gaming hardware lines.
