  • Compelling narrative with strong character focus
  • Unique gameplay mechanics with character swapping

Con
  • Gameplay lacks innovation and originality
  • Instadeath mechanics hinder creative play
  • Emotional stakes are not fully realized

Review

Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream offers a vividly crafted world steeped in the elegance and grit of early 20th-century Scandinavia, showcasing beautiful visuals and a compelling narrative centered on Hanna's search for her missing brother, Herman. The game excels in character design and offers unique gameplay mechanics through character swapping, allowing for a fresh approach to stealth. However, the game falls short in terms of innovation within the stealth genre, relying on familiar tropes and instadeath mechanics that limit player creativity. While the narrative shows promise, the emotional impact feels muted, preventing players from forming a deeper connection with the storyline. Overall, Eriksholm is an enjoyable experience for fans of narrative-driven stealth games, yet it doesn't fully escape the confines of its genre.

Background information

Critics have praised Eriksholm for its art direction and character design, noting its clever level design and visual fidelity. However, some reviews pointed out the game's lack of emotional stakes and conventional gameplay mechanics. While the game has been well-received in terms of aesthetics, opinions vary regarding its innovation and depth.
