Blizzard seizes a computer in the US cooled by human blood

Oct 24, 2023 4:31 PM

In an unusual promotional strategy, game developer Blizzard is organizing a lottery in the United States where participants have a chance to win a PC that is reportedly cooled by "real human blood". The giveaway is part of a Diablo 4 promotion which encourages players to donate blood to a clinic of their choice. To participate, evidence of blood donation must be submitted to Blizzard.

Once a total of 630 liters of blood has been donated, the PC will be raffled off to the participants. According to the frequently asked questions section, the PC does indeed contain real human blood. The machine sports a Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090, an Intel Core i9-13900K, 64 GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 3 TB Gen5 NVMe M.2 SSD for storage.

Although the PC can only be won by Americans, Diablo 4 players around the world will receive in-game items when certain 'tiers' of blood donation quantities are reached. As of the report, the first tier has already been achieved, rewarding players with various in-game Bloodpetal weapons.

This unusual promotion encourages both gaming involvement and social contribution by appealing to a unique combination of gaming and humanitarian interests.
