Breakout hit Foamstars hits PS5 and PS4 on Feb 6

Jan 16, 2024 2:55 PM

Square Enix is set to release the vibrant multiplayershooter "Foamstars" exclusively on PlayStation consoles on February 6th. PlayStation Plus members will have privileged access to claim and play the game for free during its first month. Those who miss the chance can purchase it for €30 starting on March 4th. The PS5 version of Foamstars promises enhanced features such as higher framerate and haptic feedback.

A Season Pass will also be available for around €6, offering cosmetic items and early access to new content. However, all players are assured to receive all future game modes, maps, and characters at no extra cost. Foamstars gained attention after its reveal at a PlayStation Showcase, drawing comparisons to Nintendo's Splatoon series with its unique foam-firing mechanics and colorful 4v4 gameplay. The game will feature various play modes including team challenges and PvE missions, with Square Enix integrating AI-generated art for certain in-game assets using Midjourney.

When can I claim Foamstars for free with PlayStation Plus?

You can claim Foamstars for free with PlayStation Plus starting from February 6th for an entire month until March 3rd, after which it will be available for purchase.

Foamstars stands out in the gaming community for its vivid, fast-paced shooter experience that focuses on shooting foam to navigate and build within the game environment. Influenced by Nintendo's Splatoon, the game's creative appeal and multiplayer functionality signify Square Enix's foray into the competitive and interactive world of shooter games with a lighthearted twist. Such an approach suggests the company's inclination to diversify its portfolio and cater to a broad audience seeking fun and engaging combat mechanics. As gamers anticipate the launch, the title's exclusivity on PlayStation platforms and the use of AI in art creation mark intriguing technological developments within the gaming industry.

Foamstars seems like a playful twist in Square Enix's line-up, blending Splatoon vibes with a unique foamy flair, and the AI-powered art is a neat peek into future game dev trends. PlayStation Plus snagging it for free is a sweet deal, so I'm marking my calendar for some foamy fun come February 6th 🎮🎨

Square Enix seems to be dipping its creative toes into more light-hearted waters with Foamstars, offering a fresh take on the multiplayer shooter genre that’s decidedly vibrant and family-friendly. By incorporating AI-generated art and enhancing the gaming experience for PS5 users, they're not only appealing to fans of games like Splatoon but are also embracing cutting-edge tech to potentially set a new trend in the market.
