Concord Stays in Prime Video's Secret Level After Game Canceled

Sep 05, 2024 9:05 PM

Amazon's upcoming anthology series, Secret Level, will still feature the canceled game Concord, despite the news of its demise. Initially announced during gamescom, Concord was part of a series of 15 stand-alone stories that also includes notable franchises like God of War and Mega Man. Though the live service game is slated to go offline soon due to poor performance, Amazon has not officially confirmed whether Concord's episode will air as planned. Secret Level is created by Tim Miller, known for popular works like Love, Death and Robots, and is set to stream on Prime Video starting December 10.

Concord was a hero shooter developed by Firewalk Studios that struggled to attract players, leading to Sony's decision to take it offline shortly after its launch. The game featured competitive gameplay with 16 characters and 12 maps but lacked a strong narrative or a signature game mode. While it aimed to carve a niche in the FPS genre, its low sales and lack of concurrent players ultimately resulted in its swift cancellation, raising questions about its potential return in a free-to-play format. Players are currently focused on earning trophies before the game's shutdown.

It's intriguing to see that even a canceled game like Concord can live on in a different medium through the Secret Level anthology. It raises interesting questions about how narratives can find a second life, even if the gameplay didn't quite hit the mark.

It's pretty wild to see a canceled game still getting airtime in an anthology series; it just goes to show how interconnected gaming and media are becoming. With Tim Miller at the helm, I’m definitely curious to see how they make Concord's episode stand out, even if the game didn't quite hit the mark.
