The much-anticipated release of Mortal Kombat 1 on Nintendo Switch has yielded mixed reactions, with numerous players unsatisfied with the game's quality. After gaining early access, fans discovered the Switch version had significant drawbacks, especially in terms of character design and facial animations, despite the initial excitement of Mortal Kombat 1 being released on Switch along with PlayStation and Xbox.
The characters appeared to display a lack of emotion, placing them squarely in the uncanny valley. One user even tweeted that the character, Johnny Cage, looked like someone contemplating their existence and achievement (or lack thereof) in life. Furthermore, strange glitches were also observed in the Switch version, such as characters moving on different axes across the screen.
A comparison between the PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch versions sparked controversy, as the quality differences were stark, yet all cost $70. Many gamers suggested that Switch players request a refund due to these discrepancies. Some players defended the Switch graphics, only to have the game prove them wrong with its graphical issues.
Despite these criticisms, Mortal Kombat 1 received a positive review from reviewer Connor of VG247. Describing it as a solid next step for the franchise, he gave the game 4 out of 5 stars, suggesting it's laying the groundwork for a successful future of the Mortal Kombat series.
