Matthew Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing in the popular sitcom Friends, has passed away at the age of 54. Many of his former co-stars and friends offered loving tributes on social media platforms upon hearing the news. The actor was praised for the laughter and love he brought to the world. Remembering Perry, Selma Blair who starred with him in an episode of Friends, said, "My oldest boy friend. All of us loved Matthew Perry, and I did especially. Every day. I loved him unconditionally". Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis paid tribute to Perry by referencing his memoir in her post. Gwyneth Paltrow fondly recalled the times she spent with Perry during the summer of 1993 at the Williamstown Theater Festival. Perry had just filmed the pilot of Friends, which would eventually become a milestone in his career, making him a household name alongside Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer.

Others who had worked with Perry such as Maggie Wheeler, who played Janice, Chandler's on and off love interest in the show; Paget Brewster, who portrayed Kathy, a character Chandler dated in Season 4; and Morgan Fairchild, who starred as Nora Bing, Chandler's mother, also shared their fond memories of the actor. Friends' co-creators/executive producers Marta Kauffman and David Crane, and the series' executive producer/director Kevin Bright issued a joint statement expressing their grief and love towards Perry. Streaming service Max paid tribute to the late Friends star by adding a tribute card at the beginning of each season of the sitcom. The fans also paid their respects by placing flowers and handwritten messages outside the iconic New York building that was showcased as the apartment Chandler shared with Joey Tribbiani in Friends.
