Stalker 2 delayed again - new release Sept 5

Jan 17, 2024 7:00 AM

The highly anticipated video game 'Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl' has faced another delay, with the new release date set for September 5, 2024. GSC Game World, the developers, took this decision after allowing thousands of players to test the game and receiving feedback, which pointed out the need for technical improvements. Originally set to release in the first quarter of 2024, the development faced challenges due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as the studio was based there. However, they continue their work from the Czech Republic, with some team members still in Ukraine. 'Stalker 2', a first-person shooter, will again immerse players in the Zone surrounding the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant filled with radiation and mutations. The game will launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC, and it will also be available on Game Pass on release day. The announcement was accompanied by a brief new trailer.

Why has Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl been delayed?

The game has been delayed to September 5, 2024, to address technical aspects that need refinement following player feedback during testing phases. Additionally, the development process has been affected by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, where the studio was originally located.

'Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl' is set in a post-apocalyptic world and is a sequel to the original 'STALKER' series, which was inspired by the 1979 novel 'Roadside Picnic' and the 1979 film 'Stalker', directed by Andrei Tarkovsky. This series is known for its atmospheric depiction of a contaminated area known as "The Zone," referencing the real-life Chornobyl Exclusion Zone. Over the years, the STALKER series has garnered a cult following for its blend of first-person shooter, horror, and survival elements infused within a deeply immersive world.

Bummer about the delay for 'Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl', but it's reassuring to see GSC Game World prioritizing quality and responding to feedback, even amidst the real-world challenges they're facing. Patience is a small price to pay for a game that's aiming to nail the creepy vibes of The Zone just right. 👻🎮

It's truly a testament to the dedication of the GSC Game World team that, even amidst the turmoil caused by the invasion of Ukraine, 'Stalker 2' is marching towards a release with much-needed polish following community input. No doubt, the added wait stings a bit for the fans, but if it delivers that quintessential eerie and immersive 'Stalker' experience on day one, especially on Game Pass, it'll likely be worth the extra time in the anomaly-ridden cooker.
