For years, fans of Mortal Kombat and DC have been keeping their fingers crossed for a crossover movie or series. However, their hopes were dashed recently when Warner Bros. declined an animated crossover show pitched by Jeremy Adams, the writer for various Mortal Kombat animation projects. Adams expressed disappointment but, at the same time, seemed uncertain about the future prospects of such a project.
This idea of Mortal Kombat and DC Universe crossing paths isn't entirely new though. Way back in 2008, Midway Games released Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360."
This game featured famous characters like Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and Liu Kang battling against DC superheroes like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman.Despite initially not going down too well, this fusion created a foundation for NetherRealm's 2013 DC fighting game 'Injustice: Gods Among Us'.
Since then, Mortal Kombat characters have made appearances as guest characters, keeping the spirit of the original crossover alive. Interestingly, many expected NetherRealm's 2019 game, 'Mortal Kombat 11', to be followed by 'Injustice 3', but instead, we got Mortal Kombat 1 this year.Even though Warner Bros. rejected a new crossover pitch, the enthusiasm among fans sparks hope that one day, they might consider reviving the concept.
