Ed Boon denies Injustice 3 test claims and Insomniac rumor

What happened

IGN reported on September 24, 2026 that Ed Boon, NetherRealm’s development chief, had once again responded to speculation about the studio’s next game. The report again mentioned Injustice 3, but NetherRealm still has not officially announced the game.

Boon first replied to a satirical X post claiming that NetherRealm was working with Insomniac Games on the “first AAAA fighting game.” His response was brief: “100% false. Next rumor please.... ;)”. IGN noted that it was not clear whether Boon fully picked up on the post’s satirical tone.

Boon then responded to a second rumor post claiming that NetherRealm was currently testing Injustice 3, Mortal Kombat 13 and/or Mortal Kombat 9. His reply was: “All false”. That denied the test claims, but it did not confirm that Injustice 3 is not in development.

According to IGN and earlier reporting from MP1st, there are also signs that an unannounced fighting game could feature Supergirl and Batwoman as playable characters. That information has also not been confirmed by NetherRealm.
