Grand Theft Auto 5 leaves Xbox Game Pass at the end of this month

Xbox Game Pass, Microsoft’s popular subscription service, will lose five titles on April 15, 2026, including the highly rated Grand Theft Auto 5. This marks another major change to the service’s game library.

The importance of Grand Theft Auto 5

Grand Theft Auto 5, launched on September 17, 2013, remains one of the highest-rated titles on Xbox Game Pass, with an average OpenCritic score of 92. The game is not only highly regarded, but also a huge commercial success; since April 2018, it has been the highest-grossing entertainment product of all time with more than $6 billion in sales. By 2026, the game had generated another $2.6 billion in revenue.

Titles leaving Xbox Game Pass

In the first quarter of 2026, Xbox Game Pass lost a total of 28 games, nearly half of them removed in January alone. The recent wave of removals, which took place at the end of March, included only Mad Streets and Peppa Pig: World Adventures. The upcoming wave on April 15 is a larger one, with five more titles leaving the service, including Grand Theft Auto 5.

New additions and future plans

At the same time as the announced removals, new titles continue to arrive on Xbox Game Pass. In the first half of April 2026 alone, eight new titles were added. The biggest release wave this month included a much-anticipated day-one cyberpunk game. Five more new titles have already been confirmed for the second half of April 2026.

Xbox Game Pass continues to focus on improving its lineup despite the removals. The addition of new titles and the anticipation around upcoming releases are still something for subscribers to look forward to.
