Saros: new third-person shooter with a large file size

The release of Saros, Housemarque’s latest third-person shooter, is just around the corner. Inspired by the popularity of Returnal, Saros aims to expand the gameplay with new elements and challenges. As the launch later this month approaches, key details about the file size and preload dates have been revealed.

Large file size

Saros will require around 83.440 GB of storage space on PlayStation 5. That means players should ideally have at least 100 GB of free space on their console. This is not only for the initial download, but also for any future updates and patches that may arrive after launch. The file size information comes from the PlayStation Game Size social media account and, while not officially confirmed by Sony or Housemarque, the account has often proven accurate in the past.

Preload dates

For players who do not want to wait, specific preload dates have been set. Deluxe Edition owners can start preloading on 21 April 2026, while standard players can begin their download two days later, on 23 April. This gives them the chance to jump into the game earlier and be fully prepared for the official release on 30 April 2026.

Inspiration from Returnal

Saros takes a lot of inspiration from Returnal, with a focus on advanced gameplay, including the iconic bullet ballet combat. Housemarque has said it plans to make full use of the PS5’s capabilities. That includes faster load times, haptic feedback via the DualSense controller, and support for 3D audio, all of which should help create a more immersive experience.

Launch timeline

With its impressive file size and development that appears to be progressing smoothly, Saros gives Housemarque fans and newcomers plenty to look forward to.
