"Halo Infinite" has seen a significant resurgence in participation following the release of Season 5: Reckoning. Ahead of this launch, the concurrent player count for the first-person shooter by developer 343 Industries was roughly 7,000; however, following the release and introduction of the flood-themed Season 5, the simultaneous user tally climbed to 18,000. This resulted in the game reentering Steam's top 50 most played games - the highest climb in popularity since Season 2's launch 17 months prior.

It should be noted that these numbers originate from Steam and not from Microsoft. Therefore, they don’t reflect a complete user count, but it is known that "Halo Infinite’s" multiplayer feature is amongst the top 50 most popular Xbox games, as confirmed through the Microsoft Store. Further, the game is back in Steam’s top 100 best sellers, placing 24th, indicating that players have been investing in the game’s new battle pass.

Though promising, the player count is still far lower than the record peak of 272,586 simultaneous users that the game saw during its initial release two years prior. Players had originally been dissatisfied with the game's progression system, missing modes, and monetization methods, which led to a significant drop-off in users.

343 Industries had also introduced changes that weren’t well-received by the players, such as the elimination of split-screen multiplayer and a delay in the release of the Forge mode. Though, in spite of these challenges, the latest Season 5 updates and the introduction of the AI toolkit in Forge mode have been met with positive user responses. Other key changes include removing seasonal narrative cutscenes and focusing on delivering improved features.

The game's developers, following localized layoffs, have reassured fans that the Halo franchise will continue - they are said to be currently working on a new project under the Halo universe, codenamed "Tatanka". The game planned to utilize the Unreal Engine developed by Epic Games instead of the in-house Slipspace engine.

Users have praised the recent updates and improvements to the game, which suggests that the players' sentiment towards Halo Infinite has begun to turn favorable once again.
