Nintendo has announced that the online services for Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will be permanently shut down in April 2024. The specific date wasn't disclosed, but this discontinuation will affect online play, leaderboards, and data distribution. The eShop was already closed on the 3DS and Wii U last March. However, players can continue to play their games offline even after April 2024. Pokémon Bank will remain available on Wii U and 3DS. Additionally, the ability to re-download data and games will still be possible. StreetPass will also remain usable on the 3DS as it relies on communication between 3DS systems rather than online functions. On the other hand, SpotPass will no longer be available. More details can be found in an FAQ from Nintendo.
