Godzilla Minus Zero: trailer, plot and cast revealed

The first trailer and details for Godzilla Minus Zero have been revealed by director Takashi Yamazaki during GKIDS' presentation at CinemaCon . This is the first Japanese production ever filmed for IMAX , and it serves as a direct sequel to the Oscar-winning predecessor, Godzilla Minus One .

Plot and story

The plot of Godzilla Minus Zero is set in 1949, two years after the turbulent events of Godzilla Minus One. The film follows the Shikishima family as they face an entirely new calamity. The lead actors from the 2023 film return, with Ryunosuke Kamiki as pilot Koichi Shikishima and Minami Hamabe as Noriko Oishi .

The trailer and footage

The CinemaCon footage began with a behind-the-scenes look at the making of Godzilla Minus Zero, followed by a teaser trailer. The trailer includes shots of Koichi flying through debris, scenes of a devastated city, and Noriko comforting her adopted daughter Akiko . A dramatic highlight is Godzilla emerging from the ocean to attack a plane, and the trailer ends with an iconic shot of the Statue of Liberty .

Release information

Godzilla Minus Zero will be released in Japan on 3 November 2026, a date known as 'Japan’s Godzilla Day'. The film will then receive a wide theatrical release in North America on 6 November 2026 through GKIDS .

With a strong foundation from a previous hit, Godzilla Minus Zero hopes to write a new chapter in the legendary franchise, which has now grossed more than $116 million at the global box office. Godzilla Minus One was also crucial for the franchise and won Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards. This will undoubtedly spark curiosity among both longtime fans and newcomers to the monster saga.
